The Importance of Mount Elgon

Mount Elgon is one of the 5 water towers in Kenya. 99% of all its water, be it from the kenyan or ugandan side, drains into Lake Victoria and Lake Trukana through multiple rivers like Nzoia and Turkwel. Thereby, Mount Elgon feeds the Nil through Lake Victoria, which powers and supplys 7 countries in East-Africa, which makes it so important to conserve Mount Elgon’s whole ecosystem.

Moreover, Mount Elgon is home to a vast diversity of wildlife with a lot of endangered species. This wildlife and ecosystem is also a big tourist attraction, which is important for the local economy.
